Disabled Applicants' Info
At
the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), we’ve
been
powering people and careers since 1937. Since the beginning,
BPA
has come to be regarded as a world leader in power transmission.
How did we get here? The answer is simple — our
people!
At BPA, each of our employees is a valued member of our
team.
We work together at BPA, combining our talents, resources,
and expertise to create an environment where anything
is possible.
We encourage people with disabilities who are seeking
a
career with a great future to explore opportunities with
BPA.
As a Federal agency, BPA can fill jobs two ways, competitively
and non-competitively and persons with disabilities may
apply
for jobs both ways. To be selected, candidates must meet
the
qualification requirements of the position and be able
to perform
the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable
accommodation.
Special
Appointing Authorities for people with disabilities
The Federal Government has special appointing authorities for persons with disabilities. To be eligible for these noncompetitive, Schedule A, appointments, a person must meet the definition for being disabled. The person must have a severe physical, cognitive, or emotional disability; have a history of having such disability; or be perceived as having such disability. The person must obtain a certification letter from a State Vocational Rehabilitation Office or the Department of Veterans Affairs to be eligible for appointment under these special authorities. These authorities provide a unique opportunity to demonstrate your potential to successfully perform the essential duties of a position. In addition, these hiring authorities help match your core skills along with your “reasonable accommodation” needs with available jobs.
Reasonable
workplace accommodations
Sometimes it is necessary for Federal hiring officials to make a “reasonable workplace accommodation” to make it easier for a disabled employee to successfully perform the duties of their position. Examples of such accommodations include: interpreters/ readers, personal assistance, modification of job duties, restructuring of worksite, flexible work schedules, and obtaining accessible technology or other workplace adaptive equipment. BPA assures that we will make every effort to ensure our disabled employees are safe and comfortable in their individual work environments.
